Incipient plasmolysis Flashcards
1
Q
What is plasmolysis
A
where cell membrane of the plasnt cell begins to shrink away from the cell wall
2
Q
What is incipient plasmolysis
A
- when water potential of the cytoplasm is the same as the solution
- the point at whcih plasmolysis just begins to occur
- when 50% of cells in a tissue are plasmolysed
3
Q
Why are plant cells left for 20 minutes before observation
A
allow time for osmosis to reach equilibrium
4
Q
Outline the procedure for the incipient plasmolysis practical
A
- tranfer a small set of each mineral salt solution into a watch glass and place on section of a plant tissue into the watch glass and leave for 20 minutes
- remove each sectio using forceps mount in a drop of the corresponding solution on a microscope sline and cover with a coverslip
- observe 25 cellss and record how many are plasmolysed
