Emergency Equipment
Make sure I have a fully charged BC10 fire extinguisher.
It’s not cracked bent broke or loose
It’s properly mounted and secure with NO LEAKS
I should have 3 red and orange triangle reflectors, extra fuses and circuit breakers in the glove box.
Safe start the engine
Make sure gear shift is in neutral My parking breaks are set Put my foot on the break Push in the clutch Start the engine
With the engine started check the:
temperature gauge (180-200)
Oil pressure gauge (40-50 psi)
Voltmeter (12-14 volts)
Make sure the gauges are clean, working, and in normal range.
Check the air pressure gauge. Should be clean and working. The air pressure should start to build up until it reaches 120-125 psi.
Check the lighting indicator
There’s 5 of them
Right turn Left turn 4 way emergency flashers Headlights And high beams
Check the horns
City horn on steering wheel
Highway horn - pull the cord
Heater and defroster
Should work on:
All speeds and settings.
None of the vents are blocked
Check the mirrors and windshield
Make sure they are clean
Mirrors are set to my view
No illegal stickers on the windshield

Check the rubber seal
Make sure it’s not cut, frayed, dry rotten or loose
Properly mounted and secure with no leaks
Check the wipers
They should work at all speeds
Flush against the windshield
Check the washer fluid sprayer
Make sure it sprays against the windshield
Check parking break
Start with yellow tractor break Push the gear shift into 1st gear Push in the red valve Make sure the hand brake is off Take your foot off the foot brake Slowly release the clutch It should tug Tractor break works
Check the Trailer brake
Pull out the red valve Push in the yellow valve Slowly release the clutch It should tug Trailer brake works
Check the Service Brake
Put your foot on the brake pedal Push in the red valve Check the yellow Release the foot brake Take your foot off of the clutch Give it some gas- go forward - apply the brake - it should stop No pull to the left or right No strange noise and the ABS light should not come on Keep your foot on the brake pedal Put the gear shift back in neutral
Air brake check
If truck is on un-level ground, CHOCK the wheels so it won’t roll.
Turn off the engine off and keep your foot on the brake pedal for one minute
Should not lose more than 4 psi in any combination vehicle
Ask examiner: Would you like to time me for one minute?
If the answer is no: Turn the key to ON Do not start the engine You want the gauges to work Start pumping the brake pedal to force out the air Warning light: 60 psi Red valve: 40 psi Yellow valve: 20 psi
After pumping out air ask examiner: would you like me to restart the engine to build up the pressure?
Start the engine
Push in the clutch
Put your foot on the brake
Start it
If equipped with hydraulic brakes
Pump the pedal 3 times
Hold it for 5 seconds
Should not lose any pressure
Safety Belt
Latches/Unlatches
It’s not cut, frayed, dry rotten or lose
Properly mounted and secure
