- Investigative tool (notes can be reviewed and compared, aiding a investigation)
- Record of correspondence (notes can be used in police file)
- Record of interview (take brief notes aiding your interview)

What are a persons basic details to obtain?
A
- Full name
- Full residential address
- Phone number & cell phone number
- Occupation
- Employers name, address & phone number
- Date of birth & age

What are additional details to include in someones particulars?
A
- Sex / ethnicity / place of birth
- Their clothing
- Description of facial hair
- Hair length and colour
- Prominent features (scars / marks / tattoos)
- Circumstances of identification (lighting, distance, weather etc)
- Their mental & physical condition
