A
Gene taken out so the animals will lack a particular protein e.g. a specific receptor

A
A gene has been added to the genome so the animal will express an extra protein e.g. a human specific receptor

What are disadvantages of transgenic animals?
A
manipulation lead to adverse effects
Abnormal behavioural patterns compared with wild type mice may be present (controls- normal not transgenic)
Adding in or taking out a gene could influence normal physiological function
Systemic effects can be adhered due to lack of global gene function
