Acetaminophen
A
- class: analgesics
- aka Tylenol
- purpose: pain reliever and fever reducer
- adult dose: (oral) 500-1000mg
- pediatric dose: (oral) 15mg/kg
- caution: filtered through the liver and can cause liver damage

adenosine
A
- class: anti-arrhythmic
- aka Adenocard
- purpose: administered to convert supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
- dose: rapid IV push an an AC IV with an immediate flush (1st dose 6mg, if pt does not convert then 2nd of 12mg)
- caution: pt must be on cardiac monitor prior to administration, pt must have IV fluids infusing during administration, and a provider must be present during administration

Afrin Nasal Spray
A
- class: vasoconstrictor
- aka oxymetazoline HCL
- purpose: primarily used at TAUC to treat nose bleeds and nasal congestion
- dose: stocked in the ENT tote, in a 30 mL spray bottle, and is administered by a provider

Albuterol Sulfate
A
- class: bronchodilator
- purpose: it is indicated for the treatment of bronchospasms in pts with cases such as RSV, asthma, COPD, and other respiratory illnesses.
- dose: 2.5mg/3ml in a solution and given per nebulizer inhalant; can be mixed with ipratropium bromide (Atrovent) and given per inhalation to make a DuoNeb treatment
- caution: may cause nervousness, tremors, and an increased and/or uneven heart beat

Aspirin
A
- class: NSAID
- purpose: used to prevent blood clots from forming; typically given to pts who may be experiencing a cardiac event
- dose: 324 mg (4 chewable 81mg tablets)
- caution: may contribute to increased bleeding in pts who have intestinal bleeding, ulcers, blood clotting disorders, and anemia

Cefazolin
A
- class: cephalosporin antibiotic
- aka Ancef
- purpose: used to treat bacterial infections
- dose: given IM or IV
(reconstitution both with NS) - caution: if pt has an allergy to penicillin-family based , check with the provider prior to administering medication

Ceftriaxone
A
- class: cephalosporin antibiotic
- aka Rocephin
- purpose: used to treat bacterial infections
- dose: given IM or IV
(IM uses lidocaine and IV uses NS for reconstitution); refer to reconstitution chart at TAUC - caution: never reconsistute with lidocaine when adding medication to IV fluid, if pt has an allergy to penicillin-family based , check with the provider prior to administering medication

Clindamycin
A
- class: antibiotic
- aka Cleocin
- purpose: used to treat bacterial infections; great alternative for pts with penicillin allergies
- dose: 300-900mg IM or IVPB
- caution: do not administered through IV push

Clonidine
A
- class: antihypertensive
- purpose: prevents an increase in peripheral vascular resistance, lowering blood pressure
- dose: 1 (0.1 mg) Tablet
- caution: monitor pt for fast, slow, pounding, or uneven heartbeat, lightheadedness, dizziness, and fainting

Dexamethasone
A
- class: corticosteroid
- aka Decadron
- purpose: used to reduce the immune system’s adverse effects on the body (ex: inflammation, allergies)
- dose: IM or IV push (for pediatric pts administered PO and mixed in liquid Tylenol or ibuprofen)
- caution: may increase blood sugar in diabetic pts, may cause a temporary burning sensation in the neck, groin, or armpits

Dextrose 50%
A
- class: glucose elevating agents
- aka D50
- purpose: administered to increase pts blood sugar levels
- dose: 1mL/kg IV
- caution: close monitoring of blood sugars post-administration is required

Diphenhydramine
A
- class: antihistimaine (ONLY one at TAUC)
- aka Benadryl
- purpose: used to treat allergic reactions or anaphylaxis
- dose: 25-50 mg slow IV push or IM or liquid 12.5/5mL PO
- caution: has sedative side effects (may cause drowsiness); ensure pt has a ride home before administration

Epinephrine
A
- class: bronchodilator
- aka Adrenalin
- purpose: administered to pts suffering from severe allergic reactions, asthma attacks, or other types of air-way constricting illnesses
- dose: the strength of epi at TAUC is 1:1,000; 0.15mL-0.30mL either SQ or IM
- caution: may cause jitteriness and an increase in the pts blood pressure and heart rate- monitor vital signs closely

Famotidine
A
- class: antacid or antihistimine
- aka Pepcid
- purpose: administered as a histamine blocker in severe allergic reactions or as an antacid in pts with GERD or other GI related presentations (stored in fridge at TAUC)
- dose: 20mg IVPB
- caution: may lead to prolonged QT interval or another cardiac arrhythmia if administered too rapidly

Ibuprofen
A
- class: NSAID
- aka Motrin
- purpose: used to treat fever and mild to moderate pain
- dose: 600mg PO tablets (pediatric dose is weight based)
- caution: do not administer to infants under 6 months of age
