Open Tray Technique

A

Implant Level

  • Aka Pick-up impression
  • Copings have retaining screws that protrude from tray
    • unscrew when impression is set
    • coping comes off in tray (Direct Transfer)
    • Analog screwed on coping
  • Splinted or Non-Splinted Coping
    • Splinted
      • connect w/resin or composite
  • Hard to do in posterior

Closed Tray Technique

  • Implant Level
  • Aka Transfer Impression
  • Coping stays on implant after impression
    • analog is attached to it
    • coping placed back in impression
    • soft tissue moulage applied
      • simulate soft tissue
      • remove to allow access to platform
  • Disadvantage:
    • recreate exact orientation of coping in impression
      • inaccurate
