divided Oregon Country between the United States and Canada
Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo (1848)
ended the war with Mexico; U.S. acquired CA, NV, UT, NM, most of AZ, CO, and other land.

ended Spanish-American War; Cuban independence; U.S. acquired Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.

made Cuba a U.S. protectorate
