Important stuff to know Flashcards
1
Q
Tight junction
A
- Make cell sheets impermeable
- divide plasma membrane into two functionally different domains
2
Q
Adhesion belts
A
- Links actin cytoskeletons
- Provides structure to cell sheet
3
Q
Desmosomes
A
- link intermediary filament cytoskeleton
- provide strength to cell sheet
4
Q
Gap Junctions
A
- Allow for Coupling between cells
- electrical coupling: heart, brain, muscle cells
- Chemical coupling: fish pigment cells (cAMP), pancreas cells secreting in coordinate manner
5
Q
What are the functions of the ECM?
A
- Space for diffusion of O2 and nutrients
- Space for diffusion of growth factors
- Space for cells to migrate through
- Increase tissue strength, flexibility, and resistance to compression
- Template for cell regeneration
- Marker for tissue location
6
Q
What are the main types of proteins in the ECM?
A
- Big three: Collagen, elastin, GAGs & Proteoglycan
- Also fibronectin (FN)
7
Q
What do CDK1/Cyclin phosphorylate, and what does that cause to occur
A
- Pore proteins –> pores disassemble
- Lamins –> Lamina disassembles
- Histone H1 –> Chromosomes condense
- Transcription factors –> shuts off transcription
- Servant kinase
- Activates a kinase that causes the nuclear envelope fo break down
- Activates a kinase that causes microtubule GTPase to be modified so catastrophe happens more quickly
