Important studies Flashcards
Decimal
patients up to the age of 60, showing benefit of hemicraniectomy in severe MCA ischemic strokes
Decimal- 2
patients 60-80 showing improved outcomes with hemicrani in MCA ischemic stroke, but no functional improvment
TRANSFUSE
59 centers, 5000 patients randomized got either the freshest blood versus older blood and there was no difference in mortality. organ failure but here was a higher incidence of nonhemolytic febrile reactions in the younger blood. could be cell damage that occurs early on in the storage process
ABLE and INFORM trial
not difference in new vs old stored blood
PROPPR trial
balanced resuscitation with 1:1:1
PRESERVE trial
- no difference in giving any type of fluid for prevention of contrast induced nephropathy
- compared saline v bicarb v NAC in a 2x2 factorial design
- no difference
HYDREA study
after PRESERVE showed no difference in CIN with saline or bicarb
EDEN trial
looked at 1000 ARDS patients getting full feeds: it showed higher glucose levels, no improvement in mortality of VFD(primary), no rate of difference in cdiff infections
ABC- awake and breathing trial 2008 Girard
SAT + SBT better than SBT alone. Decreased MV days and 90 day mortality. More self extubation but no difference in rates of reintubation
CRASH trial- TBI
risk of death at 2 weeks and at 6 months was higher in severe TBI patients that were treated with methylprednisolone
Eden trial- enteric feeding
provided 25% calories in critical illness and there was no addedd benefit when comapring to full 100% calories
Permit trial- enteric feeding
did 40-60% calories, and when comapared to eden trial no added benefit of VFD or mortLITY WHEN COMPARED TO 25% calorie group
