Impact Of Organisations Flashcards
Define the term community
A community is a group of people who live in the same place or who have certain attitudes and interests in common
Explain 2 positive economic impacts of organisations
Employment: Jobs are created in the organisation as well as spin-off jobs in related businesses such as transport, banking, suppliers and cleaning services.
Improved standard of living : The organisation’s employees will have disposable income, which will enable them and their families to have more wealth, comfort, goods and services.
Explain 2 negative economic impacts of organisations
Housing: New organisations, especially those employing a large number of people, may create housing problems in a community. If employees want to live close to their place of work, demand for housing will increase. This will impact on land, property and rental costs, which are all likely to rise.
Crowding out: Large businesses may crowd out the local competition in a community. Because of their size and scale, it may be difficult for existing local businesses to compete on price and service levels. This could lead to business closure, which will cause unemployment.
Explain 2 positive social impacts of organisations
Increased choice/ lower prices for consumers
New organisations should provide extra goods and services as well as greater competition in the marketplace. This generally leads to more choice and lower prices for consumers.
Improved quality of life
Successful social and cultural enterprises such as theatres, libraries, clubs and societies improve community spirit and increase social interaction. This leads to a better quality of life for local residents and makes the community a better place to live.
Explain 2 negative social impacts of an organisation
Population: Large and sudden increases in the local population can transform a community. In some cases, local services such as schools, medical and leisure facilities may not be able to cope with the increase.
Traffic: New organisations may generate extra traffic, and existing roads may not be able to deal with this increased volume. This may result in delays and the need for major upgrades to the road network.
Explain 2 positive environmental impacts of an organisation
Pollution controls: New developments, including factories, have to obey strict rules to limit pollution. Many high-tech industries use cutting-edge clean technology to minimise pollution and their environmental impact.
Land usage: Organisations such as Tidy Towns use vacant land to develop community services and improve the local landscape. Local authorities provide parklands, while sporting organisations develop land to improve local facilities and the physical environment.
Explain 2 negative environmental impacts of an organisation
Pollution :Organisations may cause environmental pollution as a result of their operations and activities. This results from the generation of waste as well as noise and water pollution.
Habitat destruction: In order to provide development land for large organisations, some
natural habitats may be cleared or destroyed. This has a negative impact on plants and wildlife and can also impact on the climate.
