Q
How are antibodies used in immunotherapy?
A
Passive immunisation
-eg. polyclonal antisera useful for neutralising toxins or treating newly emerging infections
Cancer treatment
-antibodies as “magic bullets” to target tumour cells
Modulate immune responses
-deplete leukocytes (to treat autoimmune disease)
-block cytokines (to treat inflammation in allergies, overreactions, etc)
-inhibit immune checkpoints (cancer immunotherapy)
