Immunopharmacology 1 Flashcards

Q

Innate Immunity Simply explained

A
  • toll like receptors expressed on sensing cells detect fragments of pathogens
  • they release cytokines and chemokines
  • chemokines first - attract specific immune cells
  • cytokines second - modulate immune cell activation

Q

PAMPs

A
  • pathogen associated molecular patterns
  • CONSERVED chemical elements with low variance between subclasses of pathogens
  • gram+ bacteria: DNA, LP in cell walls
  • gram- bacteria: DNA, LPS, flagellin
  • our immune recongizes there highly conserved motifs that we don’t make
