Immunology II - Mclean. Only target questions Flashcards
which antibody involved with basophils mast cells eosinophils?
anaphylaxis, breathing problems.
IgE
which antibodies in all 4 types of hypersensitive reactions?
Type I: IgE
Type II: IgG
Type III: IgG + soluble antigen
Type IV: none. *** Helper t cells / macrophages involved. AKA delayed-type hypersensitivity
complement components are soluble proteins produced by…
after cleavage of C4 9complement)…
liver. Many complement components are zymogens (inactive form of enzyme) ***
C4 -> C4b (large) and C4a (small). Larger has enzymatic activity. Small = inflammation.
antibody transfer of IgA and IgG
IgA through breast milk
IgG across placenta
What are the inflammatory cytokines:
IL-1, IL-6, TNFa. Macrophages secrete this.
Which mitogen stimulates both B and T cells?
Pokeweed mitogen.
Order of potency
C5a > C3a > C4a
pleiotropic:
redundancy:
synergy:
pleiotropic: one cytokine resulting in multiple effects
redundancy: multiple cytokines resulting in one effect
synergy: 2 cytokines working together to produce one effect.
Classical pathway
Triggered by antibodies bound to surface of pathogen
Alternative pathway:
triggered directly by components of bacterial cell surfaces. Dont need antibodies!
Lectin-mediated pathway:
triggered by mannose binding proteins that are bound to molecules on the surface of pathogens.
