Immunohematology Flashcards
Can coat red cells and lead to removal by macrophages (extravascular hemolysis)
Warm Antibodies
Very efficient at fixing complent and causes intravascular hemolysis
Cold antibodies
Core backbone of all antigens in ABO blood group
Paragloboside
Paragloboside with a fucose which is a precusor to the A and B antigen
H antigen
Addition of NAG to H antigen
A antigen
Addition of galactose to H antigen
B antigen
Testing for antigens on red cells
Forward typing
Patients serum is given (contains AB) versus commercial A1 and B cells
Reverse typing
Blood type without antibodies
AB
Seen in Group A patients with exposure to gram (-) bacteria
Acquired B phenotype
Lacks the H gene and forward typing appears type O
Bombay (Oh) phenotype
D antigen protein structure is altered
D Mosaic/D Variant phenotype
Can detect IgG on RBC (IgG vs IgG) in-vivo
Coomb’s Reagent
Detects AB to RBC antigen present in patients serum - in-vitro
Indirect Coomb’s Test
Detects AB in the patient’s serum that may destroy donor RBC
Major crossmatch
