Immunity To Microbes Flashcards
What must a pathogen do to establish infection?
1.enter and invade host tissues 2. Evade the immunity of the host 3. Replicate
What are the four families of PRRs?
Toll-like receptors, nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptors, c-type lectin channels, and rig-1-like receptors.
How is complement activation activated?
Peptidoglycan’S in the cell walls of gram-positive bacteria and LPs in gram- negative bacteria, mannose on bacteria surface, and opsonization
What are the responses to bacterial infections?
Neutralization of toxins, killing of bacteria, opsonization, phagocytosis, destruction,
Where do Extra cellar bacterial infections occur?
Intestinal region, blood circulation, and lumen of resp, urogenital, and GI
What does the humoral immune system do in bacterial infections?
IgA is directed to cell wall to neutralize toxins, opsonization is done with IgG, and classical complement by IgG and IgM
What is the role of cell mediated response on intracellular bacterial infections?
Release of mhc class II by infected macrophages, and releases IFN gamma which makes pathogens more detectable
