What’s an antigen?

A

A protein on the surface of a cell.

What is an antibody?

A

A protein specific to antigens produced by plasma cells or B-cells.

What is passive immunity?

A

Inherited immunity.

E.g. Antibodies passed from the mother to the baby via the placenta.

What is active immunity?

A

Can be natural or artificial.
A person is infected/vaccinated and clones the T-cells which produce the antibodies necessary to fight the pathogen. These T cells then become memory cells or plasma cells.

What’s a vaccine?

A

A weakened or dead form of pathogens/toxins/antigens which cause the primary immune response.
