Immunity Flashcards
1
Q
What’s an antigen?
A
A protein on the surface of a cell.
2
Q
What is an antibody?
A
A protein specific to antigens produced by plasma cells or B-cells.
3
Q
What is passive immunity?
A
Inherited immunity.
E.g. Antibodies passed from the mother to the baby via the placenta.
4
Q
What is active immunity?
A
Can be natural or artificial.
A person is infected/vaccinated and clones the T-cells which produce the antibodies necessary to fight the pathogen. These T cells then become memory cells or plasma cells.
5
