Immunity Flashcards
How does phagocytosis work
1.phagocyte binds to the antigens on pathogen (non-specific)
2.A vacuole forms around the pathogen
3. Lysosomes within a phagocyte migrate towards the phagosome/vesicle
(Fuse and release enzymes)
4. Pathogens broken down by enzymes
5. Exocytosis of debris/ absorbed by phagocyte
———————–
6. Prevents antigens of pathogen (APC) and binds to T cell
7. Produces more T cells
What type of T cells are there?
Active T cells- activate B cells and stimulates phagocytosis
Memory T cells- enables a rapid response when re-exposed to a pathogen
Killer T cells- kills infected body cells
What is a monoclonal antibody
Antibodies of a certain shape made by a clone of a single B cell
-pregnancy test and magic bullets
What is the cell mediated response
Phagocytosis
