Immune Terms Flashcards
Antibody against a toxin (Artificial Passive immunity).
• Purified antiserum from animals who have been given the toxoid
Antitoxin
Toxin from lipopolysaccharide layer of cell. Heat Stable. Gram (-) have these.
Endotoxin
Toxin that affects the intestines. E.g. Lipopolysaccharides can be ______.
Enterotoxin
Toxin outside the cell from cell waste products Heat Labile. Cook your food.
Exotoxin
inanimate object is vector
Fomite
partial antigen or half antigen. does not simulate immune response
Hapten
Types I-IV. Pneumonic = ACID.
Hypersensitivity reactions
Toxin that affects the nervous system. e.g. botulism, tetanus
Neurotoxin
“purpose o f opsonization” = “enhance phagocytosis” (marks target for strike)
Opsonin
Acellular protein which denatures other proteins. Cannot be autoclaved.
Prion
inactivated toxin (active artificial immunity)
