Penicillins
Augmentin used for resistance for respiratory tract infections
Broad spectrum antibiotic
Linezolid
Antibiotics used for enterococcus infections (UTI)
NNRTIs
Treats HIV and antiviral
Side effects: rash, hypersensitivity, and redistribution of body fat
Sulfonamides/Nitrofurantoin
UTI
sulfonamide is an antibiotic which blocks bacteria from making folic acid
Contraindications: patients with sulfa allergies
Anti-influenza Agents
Contraindications: xofluza can only be used if 12+
Tamiflu can be used by younger patients
Cephalosporins
Used for patients with allergies to penicillin
No alcohol when using
Fluoroquinolones
Used for pneumonia except ciprofloxacin
NRTI
Antiretroviral (HIV)
Contraindications: shouldn’t be used in patient renal dysfunctions
Aminoglycosides
Antibiotic that comes as an eyedrop
Side effects: nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity
Lincosamides/Macrolides
Lincosamides- antibiotic used for dental work
Macrolide-broad spectrum antibiotics
Side effects: severe upset stomach
Protease inhibitors
Antiviral for Hepatitis C
Tetracyclines
Antibiotic and can cause permanent tooth discoloration
Vancomycin
Treats clostridium difficile infections (diarrhea)
Side effects: nephrotoxicity and urine toxicity
Metronidazole
Don’t use with alcohol or instant hangover
Azoles
Used for systemic fungal infections
