immune system Flashcards
infectionous
caused by pathogens, where it can spread from one person to another in the right conditions
non infectionous 3 types
Nutritional, genetic and enviornmnet/lifestyle
pathogens
disease causing organisms, they invade your body and multiply in it
First line of defense
the first barrier from infections from entering, there is a physical barrier which is the skin and nasal hair etc. There is a chemical barriers which are bascially your siliva and acids on your skin so it doesnt grow bacteria
second line of defense
the general responses to the infection, for example your body causes a fever, raises your temperatures to slow down the pathogens in the blood flow from working, and white bloodcells work to engulf the pathogens
third line of defense
the adaptive immune response, where the body remembers and target specific pathogens using antibodies. and since they remember them, they can respond to them quicker the next time they invade
Vaccination
tricks immune system into thinking it has met a pathogen before, creating memory
some vacines are made from dead pathogens or a weaker version of it
