What is an ethnic group?
Are people who share a common culture or heritage.
What is the difference between immigration and emigration?
Immigration is people coming into a country and emigration is people leaving a country.
What are “pull” factors?
Pull factors are reasons someone is attracted to a new country.
What are “push” factors?
Push factors are when people are being pushed away from their home country.
What was the nativist movement?
Nativist movement was an anti-immigrant movement that supported opportunities and benefits for native born americans
Prior to 1865, where did most immigrants (so-called “old” immigrants) come from?
Most immigrants came from Northern and Western Europe.
When did most “new” immigrants started arriving?
New immigrants started arriving around the 1880s.
Where were the “new” immigrants from?
The new immigrants were from Southern and Eastern Europe.
How were the “new” immigrants different from the “old” immigrants?
The new immigrants were from different religious and cultural backgrounds. They often looked different, spoke different languages.
What encouraged foreign immigrants to move to Kansas?
Things were pushing Europeans out and railroad advertisements and land was pulling them into Kansas.
