Emergency Descent

  1. Emergency Descent - Announce
    a. PF advise the cabin crew on PA
    b. PM advise ATC and obtain altimeter
  2. Passenger signs - On
  3. Descend -Without delay
  4. ENGINE START switches BOTH & CONT
  5. Thrust levers (both) - Reduce thrust to
    Minimum or as needed for anti-ice
  6. Speedbrake - FLIGHT DETENT
  7. Set target speed - MMO/VMO (limit speed if structural integrity is in doubt)

On affected engine:
2. Thrust lever - confirm - closed
3. Engine start lever - confirm - closed
4. Engine fire switch - confirm - pull
(Manually unlock by pressing override and pull)
5. IF engine fire switch or overheat illuminated - rotate to the stop and hold for 1 second

  3. F/D switches (both) - OFF
  4. Set the following pitch ups and thrust
    a. Flaps extended - 10 deg / 80% N1
    b. Flaps up - 4 deg / 75% N1

Loss of Thrust on Both Engines

Assumes total loss

A
  1. Engine START switches - both & FLT
  2. Engine start levers - both - CUTOFF
  3. WHEN EGT decreases
    a. Engine start levers-both IDLE DETENT
  4. IF EGT reaches a redline or there is
    no increase in EGT within 30 seconds:
    a. Engine start lever (affected engine) -
    Confirm - CUTOFF, then idle DETENT
    b. If it happens again, repeat as needed

Runaway Stabilizer

  1. Control Column - Hold Firmly
  2. Autopilot - disengage (if engaged)
  3. Autothrottle - disengage (if engaged)
  4. Pitch & Power - control the airplane
  5. Main Electric Stab Trim - use to reduce
    Control column forces
  6. IF runaway stops after Autopilot
    disengages - don’t use autopilot or
    Autothrottle
  7. IF runaway continues after autopilot
    Disengagement
    a. Stab trim switches - both - CUTOUT
    b. IF runaway continues - grasp and
    Hold trim wheel (last resort)
