Imaging workflow Flashcards
1
Q
How has colour management evolved?
A
80s = mobiles no colour 90s = mosaic system - grey and text based '95 = internet explorer accommodates colour images 2004 = facebook launched 2007 = facebook has 1.7 bn images 2010 = increased social networking 2013 = 350 million images uploaded pr day 2014 = 1.8 billion per day
2
Q
How do we ensure success in Photoshop?
A
- Every image must have a profile.
- Colour conversions need 2 profiles.
- Avoid hard proofing until later in the workflow.
- Avoid using the PS workspace.
3
Q
What is image quality dependant on, on screen?
A
- Monitor Gamma.
- Light Output.
- Device voltage.
4
Q
What are the issues assosciated with colour management?
A
- Device Dependancy.
- Media Dependancy.
- Colour Gamut.
- Variable Performance.
- Viewing Conditions.
5
Q
What is an ICC profile?
A
- Data characterising an input or output device or colour space.
- By the International Colour Consortium.
- Multiple profiles created for different substrates.
6
Q
What are the pros and cons of the ICC profile?
A
Pros: Reproducible and faithful results.
Cons: Expensive and time consuming.
7
Q
How are profiles created?
A
- Sequences of RGB colours are displayed.
- Digital cameras and scanners (physical charts are digitised.
- Sampled RGB values and measured with physical chart colours and construct a profile.
8
Q
What does gamut clipping make an image?
A
Duller.
9
Q
What does gamut compressing make an image?
A
Paler.
10
Q
List the 4 different rendering intents.
A
- Saturation intent - preserves saturation of colours.
- Absolute colour metic intent - preserves white point.
- Relative colour metric intent - maintains exact relationship with in gamut colours.
- Perceptual intent - tries to preserve relationship between out of gamut.
11
Q
Explain the imaging workflow.
A
- Image file stores camera profile.
- Converts image from RGB to sRGB.
- sRGB Image display profile.
12
Q
What is a colour management module?
A
- Interprets the device profiles and carries out the instructions on what to do with different devices of colour gamuts.
13
Q
What is the ICC digital imaging workflow?
A
- A device independent colour space.
- Device profiles that define the colour characteristics of a specific device.
