Image orientation Flashcards
Anterior
Front of the body
Posterior
Back of the body
Superior
Situated near the vertex of the head
Inferior
Situated nearer the soles of the feet
Lateral
Towards the side of the body
Medial
Towards the midline of the bidy
Superficial
Towards body surface
Deep
Away form the body surface
Liver position
Mostly to the right upper portion of the stomach, just below diaphragm.
Spleen
Left side of the abdomen under ribs
Pancreas
Across the back of the abdomen behind the stomach. Head on the right side of the abdomen connected to the duodenum. Tail, extends to the left side of the body
Kidneys
Against back muscles in upper abdominal area. Sit opposite each other on the left and right side of the body. Right kidney sits lower than left because of liver
Bladder
Muscular sac in pelvis above pubic bone
Prostate
Located between the bladder and penis just in front of rectum
Uterus
Hollow pear shaped lower abdomen between bladder and rectum
Ovaries
Either side of the uterus within the broad ligament below the uterine tube.
Echogenisty
Number of echoes within a structure
Anechoic
Without internal echoes
Fluid filled structure
Hypoechoic
Less echogenic
Hyperechoic
More echoginetic
Suggest solid or dense structure
Isoechoic
Same echogenisty
Echotexture
Arrangement of echoes within a structure
Homonegous
Uniform structure or composition trhoughou
Heterogenous
Dissimilar composition appearing irregular or variegated
Echopattern
Ultrasound appearance of a structure
Image resolution
Ability to distinguish between two adjacent structures
Acoustic window
Area of patient that enhance us transmission and provides optimal scanning access to the area of interest
Acoustic impedance
Property of all substances and equal to product of the tissue density and the speed of sound
Process of attenuation
Process that occurs as a sound wave travels througha medium
ALARA principle
As low as reasonably achievable, keeping power exposure time to a minimum while acquiring the necessary clinical information
