Ill health
A physical factor, can have negative effects on health and well-being, may be described as acute or chronic
Chronic
Comes slowly and lasts a long period of time, sometimes a lifetime. Physical symptoms can be treated with medication, not usually cured
Managing chronic illness
Addressing a negative impact on the whole person, makes sure physical, intellectual, emotional, social needs are met E.g. a child with chronic illness continuing school
Physical effects
Poor rate of growth, unusual physiological change during puberty, restricted movement
Intellectual affects
Disrupted learning (missing school), memory problems
Emotional effects
Negative self-concept, stressing
Social effects
Isolated, loss of independence, difficult to build relationships
Acute illness
Comes quick and lasts a short time example bacterial and viral infections any infections are short-term and recover easily
