ih science Flashcards
what objects can you see in the night sky
moon, stars, meteros, constellations, comets, planets
why do stars in the sky seem to move?
they seem to move because of Earths rotation
satellite
an object that orbits a planet
star
a ball of hot gas that goes under nuclear fusion
planet
an object that orbits a star large enough to be rounded by its own gravity
meteor
a streak of light in the sky produced by the burning of a meteriod in the earths atmosphere
comet
a loose collection of ice and fust that orbits the sun
constellation
a pattern or grouping of stars that suggest the outline of a firgure or object
geocentric
a model of the universe where everything revolves around Earth
heliocentric
a model of the universe in which everything revolves around the Sun
ellipse
the oval shape in which planets orbit in
observations
info or data gathered with your senses
why do meteros leave a trail of light
because it is pieces of rock burning up in the atmosphere
why do you need 2 different star charts summer and winter
because the earth rotates which will cause different stars to appear in the night sky
how did galileos discovieries support heliocentric models
galileo discovered venus has different moon phases which proved not everything orbits Earth and something in the middle has to be a light source
