Ignition system
provides spark to ignite fuel
starting system
starts engine turning so pistons can draw in air-fuel mixture
spark plugs
creates spark inside cylinders
spark plug wires
carry electric current to spark plugs
distributor
provides electricity to each spark plug at the appropriate time. connected to camshaft via a gear…a rotating switch
induction coil
converts low voltage from battery or alternator into a high voltage to generate spark.
alternator
generates electricity for the vehicle when the engine is running.
battery
provides electricity when is off. primarily for starting the car…recharged by the alternator.
starter
small bu powerful electric motor that gets engine turning so 4-stroke cycle can begin. shuts off after engine starts.
