Fuel System Flashcards
Fuel System
Provides gasoline for engine and mixes fuel with the proper amount of air.
Fuel Tank
Stores fuel
fuel filter
removes particles and contaminants
carburetor
mixes fuel and air, uses a pressure difference to draw fuel from an internal reservoir
Fuel injectors
electronically operated valves that spray fuel into incoming air (replaces carburetor)
fuel gage
monitors amount of fuel in fuel tank
air cleaner
location at which air enters the engine
air filter
removes dust, dirt, and other debris from incoming air
intake manifold
directs air-fuel mixture into intake port of each cylinder.
turbochargers and superchargers
forces additional air or air-fuel mixture into the cylinders to increase engine power
turbocharger
driven by exhaust gases
supercharger
driven by belt or chain from engine
intercooler
cools air leaving turbo or supercharger to increase its density
