Explain the IFR Alternate Minimums?

A

Check destination forecasted weather for time of arrival 1 hr before / 1 hr after…

No alternate required if:

1) ceiling 1500’ above lowest circling min
2) if circling is NA, add 1500’ to the lowest published or 2000’ height above airport…Whichever is greater
3) Visibility 3sm or 2sm more than the lowest applicable vis mins, whichever is greater

standard T/O Minimums 1 sm and 5000 RVR

1) Std. Vs published …
Always used published if available otherwise standard

2) when takeoff min is less than or equal to standard
We are allowed to use a minimum equal to lowest straight-in Cat 1 minimum

  • Take off alternate is necessary within 1 hr flight time of conditions don’t allow landing

Cargo -
Whatever straight-in approach minimum that gets you back in to the airport however fly no lower than
200’ 1/2 sm (Cat 1)

- On ILS and passed FAF you can
continue approach
- or on ASR & PAR final w/ controller

Non- Precision
