Engine start flow (after before start checklist)

A

Engine Start

  1. Seat belts
  2. Batteries reset ON
  3. Lights (nav/rotating beacon on, rest off)
  4. Control lock off
  5. Power lever cycle to flight idle
  6. Boost pumps (prime 6 seconds and off)
  7. Speeds low
  8. Inverters (check both and on)
  9. Doors, Doors, Doors (Cargo door light out, Cabin Door warning light out, Cargo door warning light out, double check lights work)
  10. FFOD unfeather pump test on engine to intentionally shut down
    a. Power lever full reverse
    b. Unfeather pump test activate
    c. Observe movement to reverse
    d. Pull stop and feather
    e. Note movement back to start locks
    f. Reset stop and feather control
    g. Unfeather pump test off
    h. Power lever flight idle

RIGHT SIDE
11. Propeller clear, flat and capped
12. Engine start button press hold
13. EGT and RPM monitor
14. 60% RPM roll back (FFOD overspeed governor test if intentionally shutting down right side do not roll back)
a. Let RPM EGT stabilize
b. Power lever advance until further movement causes no increase in fuel flow or RPM (RPM 103%-105%)
c. Power lever ground idle
15. EGT and RPM stabilized
16. Boost pump on
17. Fuel and oil pressure yellow green arcs
18. Bleed air on
19. Generator as required

LEFT SIDE
20. Propeller clear, flat and capped
21. Engine start button press hold
22. EGT and RPM monitor
23. 60% RPM roll back (FFOD overspeed governor test if intentionally shutting down left side do not roll back)
a. Let RPM EGT stabilize
b. Power lever advance until further movement causes no increase in fuel flow or RPM (RPM 103%-105%)
c. Power lever ground idle
24. EGT and RPM stabilized
25. Boost pump on
26. Fuel and oil pressure yellow green arcs
27. Bleed air on
28. Generator as required
29. GPU if used disconnected (check annunciator panel and VM)
30. Generators reset on one at a time (if GPU was used) (check VM before bringing gens online)
31. Generator volt ammeter check (sharing the load)
32. Current limiter test (annunciator panel push to test)

Before Taxi

Before Taxi

  1. Ignition switches auto
  2. Nose wheel steering armed
  3. Wing ice light on
  4. Propeller start locks release (FFOD NTS Check is done after each start lock is released)
  5. FFOD NTS Check
    a. Slowly increase power
    b. Note maximum stabilized rpm does not exceed 94.5% RPM
    c. Power lever ground idle
  6. Trim set (trim selector to pilot side and in the green)
  7. Boost pumps on
  8. SAS on
  9. CAWI test
  10. FFOD flaps and SAS deviation
    a. SAS test switch hold to cruise
    b. Flaps full
    c. Observe flaps move to full and SAS indicator deviates 3 times
    d. SAS test switch release
    e. Flaps ¼
  11. Flaps ¼
  12. Prop Sync Takeoff and Landing
  13. Avionics on
  14. Cabin signs
  15. Suction/De-Ice/ Hydraulic Pressure Check

  1. Advance power levers adjusting for uneven torque
  2. Use differential braking for directional control
  3. Takeoff power set
  4. Airspeed alive feet off brakes
  5. 80 knots cross check, panel clear, pressures green (check airspeed indicators match, no adverse annunciators, engine gauges in the green
  6. V1 calculated speed both hand on yoke
  7. VR Rotate
  8. Positive rate gear up

    5 compasses: 2 RMI’s, two HSIs, and magnetic compass
  • vertical speeds both sides
  • Flight controls free and correct
  • takeoff data and crew briefing
