ARCHER - study aim
Study of symbolic capital found that by performing WC identitites they gained symbolic capital but this clashed with school and they under achieved

- money and time on appearence
- avoids ridicule
School punished them for jewlerry and school viewed it as distraction - so they get negaitvely labelled
Boyfriends
Gains SC but they lowered aspirations nd dint want to go to uni
* one got pregnant
Being to loud
Often outspoken and assertive
Failed to conform to shcools ‘ideal submissive student so brought conflict with teachers
Working class students dilemma
Had to decide between
* gaining this symbolic capital from peers
* or gainin educaiton capital
Though som developed themselves as good underneath highlighting th struggle of being able ti achieve a sense of worth within an education that devalues WC
EVANS
Girls wanted to o ro uni but mostly for family and not themselves
Often go to local unies as part of WC identity - results in self exclusion from elite unis and limits their own success
