Ideal Gases Flashcards
Boyle’s Law
pressure is inversely proportional to volume provided temperature is constant
P∝1/V so PV=constant
Pressure Law
If mass and volume are constant, the pressure of a gas if directly proportional to its absolute temperature
P∝T so P/T=constant
Charles’ Law
If pressure remains constant, the volume of a gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature
V∝T so V/T=constant
Kinetic Model/Theory of Gases
> number of atoms/molecules is very large (e.g. mole) and in random motion/speed
atoms occupy negligible volume (compares to volume of gas)
negligible forces between atoms (except during collision)
collisions between atoms (or with container) are perfectly elastic and negligible time for collisions (compared to time between)
no. of moles
mass/molar mass
no. of particles
no. of moles x Avogadro
