The NIMS has six components
Command and Management Preparedness Resource Management Communication & Information Management Supporting Technologies Ongoing Management & Maintenance
Unified command
Allows agencies with different legal, and geographic, and functional authorities and responsibility to work together effectively without affecting individual agency authority, responsibility, or accountability.
This command is established when the complexity of the incident and incident management span-of-control considerations so dictate.
Area command
NIMS is a core set of
Doctrines , Concepts, Principles, Terminology, Organizational processes, Applicable to all hazards
The NIMS standard incident command structures are based on three key constructs
Incident Command System
Multi agency Coordination system
Public Information Systems
Incident command tactical objectives are
Life safety
Incident stabilization
Property preservation
There may be incidents where stabilization and property preservation will need to be carried out simultaneously to effect life safety operation
Accountability
Will occur at any incident that requires the use of SCBA or if a firefighter is at risk of becoming lost, trap, or injured by the evironment or structure.
