What is secondary prevention?
Detecting disease and preventing further development of disease (or limiting the impact of disease at an early stage)
What is tertiary prevention?
Treating disease, restoring function and preventing further development of disease
(Or rehabilitation of decayed teeth with further preventative care)
Why might a child not be able to retain a good plaque control?
Busy parents, no time to brush their children’s teeth (no manual control)
In what situation would a child be high risk?
Presence of lessons every year
Orthodontic treatment
Chronic illness medically/physically compromised
Social risk factors
First line of treatment for primary prevention
Topical fluoride
Oral hygiene regime
Dietary control
Fissure sealant
What is PRR?
Preventative resin restoration
For early lesions
What teeth are usually fissure sealed?
1st permanent molars;
sometimes primary molars/ other molars or premolars depending on caries risk (depends on caries risk and anatomy or behaviour)
