ICL 1.5: Anatomy of the Bony Pelvis Flashcards
what is the bony pelvis?
right and left hip bones + sacrum
the bony pelvis is formed of the right and lift hip bones which are articulated with sacrum posteriorly to form the right and left sacroiliac joints
the right and left hip bones articulate together in the midline to form pubic symphysis.
what is the function of the bony pelvis?
It provides boney framework of the lower part of the abdominal and pelvic cavities, and houses the lower abdominal and pelvic viscera.
It provides a platform for articulations and weight transfer to the skeleton of the lower limb.
what is the normal anatomical position of the pelvis?
pelvic tilt and pelvic inclination
pelvic tilt places the weight of the pelvic viscera on the pubic bone rather than on pelvic floor muscle
increased angle of pelvic inclination is associated with delayed head engagement
increased angle of pelvic inclination is associated with increased risk of acetabular retroversion
