Ice sheet scoring landforms Flashcards
1
Q
Rouche Mountonnee
A
- Resistant rock with a smooth stoss (up valley hill) and jagged lee (down-valley side).
- As ice slides over a resistant rock, smooths the stoss side via abrasion and refreezes on the jagged lee side via plucking.
2
Q
Knock & Lochan
A
- Small rock hills knock and hollows with lakes lochan.
- ## Scoring (occurs when glaciers expand beyond mountain valleys and erode large areas of low relief land).
3
Q
Crag & Tail
A
- Mass of large rock forms steep stoss with a sloping tail of deposited material.
- Softer rock protected on the lee creates sloping tail.
