Ice & Rain Protection Flashcards
What sub-systems does ice and rain protection
include?
Wing and stabilizer anti-ice system; engine ice
protection system; ADSP/TAT heating system;
windshield heating system and windshield rain
protection system (AOM 9-12-01)
When may icing conditions exist?
Whenever the OAT on the ground or for takeoff,
or TAT in flight, is 10°C or below and visible
moisture in any form is present (AOM 2-50)
Where can performance data/limits for operations
in icing conditions be found?
In the performance section and/or OPERA
AOM 2-50
When may the ICE SPEED RESET position on the
ICE PROTECTION MODE knob shall be selected?
Only if the crew is certain that there is no ice
accretion on the airplane (AOM 9-12-30)
What does the ICE SPEED RESET position on the
ICE PROTECTION MODE do?
It resets the stall protection (LSA bands) to nonicing
condition settings and removes the STALL
PROT ICE SPEED CAS message (AOM 9-12-30)
When is the APU icon and associated flow line on
the ICE PROTECTION synoptic page displayed?
On the ground only (AOM 9-12-30)
Can the APU bleed be used as a bleed source for
ice protection?
No, except for ground tests (AOM 9-12-50)
How does the Engine Ice Protection System
protect the engine air inlets from ice formation?
By extracting hot air from the engines
AOM 9-12-50
How does the Wing and Stabilizer Anti-Ice System
protect the wing and stabilizer leading edges
from icing formation?
It uses hot air from the pneumatic system
AOM 9-12-50
How can the Wing and Horizontal Stabilizer Ice
Protection Systems test be initiated?
By pressing the ice protection TEST button on
the ICE PROT panel (AOM 9-12-50)
How many ice detectors are on the airplane and
where are they located?
Two; left and right side of the nose section
AOM 9-12-50
How does the Windshield Heating System (WHS)
protect the windshield from ice and fog formation?
It uses electrical power to heat the windshield.
AOM 9-12-50
When may the WHS operate in a power savings
mode?
If the airplane system is fed by a single
generator (AOM 9-12-50)
Does WHS operate if the system is fed by battery
power?
No (AOM 9-12-50)
How are the ADSP/TAT probes heated?
Electrically (AOM 9-12-50)
