What is the position of the engine anti-ice valves in the event of an electrical power supply loss?
The engine anti-ice valves will open automatically anti-icing is ensured.

230kts.
If one engine anti-ice system fails can the second one take over and provide anti-icing for both engines?
No.
What happens to engine RPM when engine anti-ice valve is open?
The N1 limit for that engine is automatically reduced.
How does the probe heat heating work?
Electrical heating protects pitot heads static ports Angle-Of-Attack probes (AOAs) and Total AIr Temperature (TAT) probes. Three independent Probe Heat Computers (PHCs) automatically control and monitor Captains probes F/O probes and STYBY probes.
Which areas are protected with electrical heating?
Flight compartment windows sensors pitot probes static ports and waste water drain mast.
Which areas are protected with hot air?
Three outboard leading-edge slats of each wing and engine air intakes.
When does the window heating come on?
The window heating comes on automatically when at least one engine is running or when the aircraft is in flight and manually before engine start when the flight crew switches ON the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pushbutton switch.
Are the TAT probes heated on the ground?
On the ground the TAT probes are not heated and pitot heating operates at a low level (the changeover to normal power in flight is automatic).
When do the wing anti-ice valves automatically close?
- On landing
- Bleed leak detected
- Loss of electrical power
In what position do the Wing and Engine Anti-Ice valves fail if electrical power is lost?
- Wing: Valves CLOSE
- Engine: Valves OPEN
When does continuous ignition automatically operate?
- Engine Anti-ice ON
- Engine flameout detection
- Failure of the EIU
Is the engine anti-ice part of the normal pneumatic system?
No. It is a separate system independent of the pneumatic ducting
When do you use engine anti-ice?
- When OAT (Ground) / TAT (Flight) 10 degrees C or below with visible moisture present
- Prior to and during descent in icing conditions (including temperatures below -40 degrees C SAT)
