Ice Protection Flashcards
What is bleed air used to heat?
Leading edge of Wing
Leading edge of Eng Inlet
Leading edge of Stabiliser
Name the 3 modes of the de ice system
Auto
Eng
All
What position must the windscreen wipers be in for take off?
Parked
Max speed for windshield wiper operation?
170kt
What is the windscreen heated by?
Electrics
Are the windscreens automatically heated?
No
Explain the 3 types of anti ice modes; ALL, ENG, AUTO
ALL - Wing / Stabiliser anti ice valve is closed below 25kt to prevent structural damage.. speed is 0
Auto - elec pitot/static heat applied w/ at least one engine running
ENG - commands anti ice system open for eng anti ice at all times
What is the timing of the windscreen wipers?
2 strokes every 8 sec
How do we know that the AI is operating?
4 x “open” inscriptions on OH panel
Below what speed is wing and stabilator anti-ice inhibited?
25kts
Min and Max temp for anti ice operations
-40 to +10 degrees
Why do we not select windscreen anti ice on the ground / take off?
Windscreen weakens when heat applied on the embraer…
How is Piccolo tube integrity monitored?
Horizontal stabilizer: By one differential pressure switch comparing the left and right Piccolo tubes pressure. Half-wing: It depends on the airplane model. By one differential pressure switch in each Piccolo tube comparing the root and tip pressures or, by manometric switches measuring the tip pressure only.
What are the 2 windshield heat modes on the aircraft? What temp is an overheat warning triggered?
Defog - if temp below 26 degrees, this temp is maintained.
Anti ice - if icing conditions are detected, windows are heated to 43 degrees
O/heat 65 degrees
When should window heat be turned on?
In the descent and when icing conditions exist.
