Flight Controls Flashcards
Name the primary flight controls
James: no i refuse
Name the secondary flight controls
Flaps
Speed brake / ground spoilers
Gust lock
How are the elevators actuated?
Mechanically actuated
How are the ailerons and rudder actuated?
Hydraulically but with mechanical backup
What do the 4 tabs on the elevator do?
2 outer (servo) - reduces the control forces required by proportionally deflecting in the opposite direction to the elevator 2 inner (spring) - inactive at low speed but reduces control forces at high speeds
If one set of elevator controls become blocked, what can be done?
One can be disconnected and use the other set of mechanical controls
How can pitch trim be commanded?
Mechanically through switches on control wheel
Back up switch in centre
Automatically through autopilot or speed brake actuation
What happens if only one trim switch is held for >7s?
The system assumes that switch is inop and disregards further inputs
If stick shaker is actuated, will pitch up trim be available?
No
How long must the pitch trim be held for to deactivate the system?
16s
If the aileron disconnect has been used.. what system is now unable to be used?
Autopilot
What is the auto cut-off time for the trim system?
3s
Yaw control protection is active above what speed and what system is shut-off?
Above 135kts Rudder System 1 is shut-off
What is the +/- rudder deflection limit in the air or on ground
+/- 15°
What 3 conditions must be met simultaneously for the rudder hard over protection to kick-in?
Deflected beyond 5° +/- 1° AND
Force greater than 130lbs on pedal to counteract rudder deflection AND
Both engines N2 >56.4%
