IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME:
What is it?
Chronic non inflammatory bowel condition in which there is recurrent abdominal pain associated with a change in bowel habit. May appear as alternating constipating and diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, passage of mucus, bloating and constipation or faeacal urgency and diarrhoea

Bulk-forming laxative-constipation
anti-diarrhoeal
Antispasmodi agents- mebeverine,alverine citrate are used for abdominal pain
Anti-muscarinic
Peppermint oil- direct relaxant properties of intestinal smooth muscle.
