What is IBD
It is a group of chronic, progressive and complex inflammatory disorders or the digestive tract where the intestines become inflamed

Define Crohn’s disease?
It is a chronic condition which is lifelong with periods of remission as well as relapse. It can affect any part of the GI tract and is described as having a cobble stone/skip lesion appearance
Define ulcerative colitis
UC is restricted to the large intestine and appears as a continuous inflammation.
What does the inflammatory response lead to?
It leads to swollen, inflamed and ulcerated intestines. Deeper inflammation into the tissue can lead to perforation of the bowel

UC: mucosa and submucosa

Nausea and vomiting
Anemia
Retardation in children
Fever in severe cases
How does IBD affect the skin?
It can cause pyoderma gangrenosum and erethma nodostum
