I Positions Flashcards
I as western
Sometimes in conflict with I as volunteer because west is now seen as ungreatfull uncaring materialistic but also more great full for provisions of education and health care. The west is shown to be a dominant voice, perhaps even a monolouge before the experience and changes as they see new values from africa which sharpen there values towards or against west position.
I as volunteer
Used to reject unwanted colonalistic positions. Or white othered experiences. Supports I as a good person and I as a posative change maker which provides meaning and purposs within the volunteers lives.
I as human
Used to increase empathy in othered voices, position against White othering, justify and motivate I as a volunteer and can be used to defend self and othered on the individual local and global level.
I as a developing process
Positive chAnge from change in dominance of voices or restructuring of hirachie has allowed people to have an increased awareness of themselves, what they are capable of, what makes them happy, what there career goal is, a new appreciation for family and friends and less desire for materialistic things. A more developed understanding of people from developing countries reduced otherinh and increased empathy for all humans. Increased in openness towards self emotions others trust and love and also to society at large as people’s desire to help each other is rekindled.
