Critical Success
I, Daniel Black is Ken Loach’s highest grossing film, as it is very highly critically acclaimed and generated much debate due to the contemporary social and political issues that are addresses within the film. I, Daniel Blake was also exhibited at film festivals, like the Cannes film festival which takes place in France. Here, the film won the most prestigious award called the Palm D’or, which gets awarded to the best film at the festival. I, Daniel Blake was also nominated for an award at the BAFTAs, showing the high critical success that the film gained.
Lack of star power
I, Daniel Blake included all non-recognisable stars, which further enhances themes of realism and puts the audience in a position of relatability, connoting the ideology of “this could be you”. This makes the film more emotional for the audience to watch and can allow the audience to empathise with the characters.

a large organisation that has interests spanning across a number of different businesses or indutry. eg, Disney
Vertical Integration
a process whereby one company acquires another involved at a different level of the industry. The media institution will operate under separate subsidiaries and production is passed down a chain of command. eg, Marvel produces film, Disney markets it.
Horizontal Integration
a media company’s ownership of several businesses of the same value. A media company can own film production companies, record labels, television studios ect. eg, Disney owns Marvel, Disney on Ice ect.
Global Production
A film production that is globally appealing. Will have a genuine fanbase in multiple countries across the globe. eg, Marvel
Circulation
Refers to the number of copies of any given product, in this case film, which are put into distribution. eg. uploads, screenings, DVD’s, film festivals ect
Digital convergence
the process through which different media industries and forms merge with one another or move closer together This is mainly facilitated by digital technologies.
Regulation
the act of controlling, directing and managing an activity. Usually ruling is controlled by a higher authority. eg, I, Daniel Blake is regulated by
Viral Marketing
a method of marketing whereby consumers are encouraged to share information about a product or service. eg, #idanielblake was trending on twitter
