Symptoms of hypothyroidism
A
- Tired, sleepy, lethargic
- Low mood
- Sensitive to cold
- Weight gain
- Constipation
- Menorrhagia
- Dementia, reduced cognition/memory
- Myalgia, cramps, weakness

Signs of hypothyroidism (B.R.A.D.Y.C.A.R.D.I.C)
A
- Bradycardia
- Reduced reflexes
- Ataxia
- Dry thin hair/skin
- Yawning/drowsy/coma
- Cold hands
- Ascites +/- non-pitting oedema
- Round/puffy face/double chin/obese
- Defeated demeanour
- Immobile +/- ileus
- CCF
Also goitre, neuropathy, myopathy

-TFT’s (TSH + T4)

Type of autoimmune hypothyroidism
A
- Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
- Goitre (lymphocytic + plasma cell infiltration)
- Antibody titres very high

Causes of primary hypothyroidism
A
- Iodine deficiency
- Post thyroidectomy or radioiodine Rx
- Drug induced (Amiodarone, lithium, iodine)

Cause of secondary hypothyroidism
A
Hypopituitarism, very rare
