what is the difference between primary and secondary hypothyroidism

A

primary= thyroid pathology where low T3/T4 is produced. TSH would be high

secondary= pituitary pathology, low TSH, low T3/T4

A

cold skin/ cold intolerance
bradycardia
hair thinning
weight gain- puffy face

how do you investigate hypothyroid

A

thyroid function tests-> decreased T3/4, increased TSH if primary

subclinical hypothyroid= normal T3/4 and increased TSH

USS if goitre
