What is a directional hypothesis?
A directional hypothesis states that there will be a difference and what the difference will be.
What is a non-directional hypothesis?
A non-directional hypothesis states that there will be a difference but not what the difference will be.
What is a null hypothesis?
A null hypothesis states that there will be no difference between the variables that are being studied.
What is an alternative hypothesis?
An alternative hypothesis is any hypothesis apart from the null hypothesis.
What is an experimental hypothesis?
An experimental hypothesis is the alternative hypothesis in an experiment.
When is a directional hypothesis used?
Directional hypotheses are usually used when there is previous research on the topic to indicate which way the experiment will go, and is then built off of that.
When is a non-directional hypothesis used?
Non-directional hypotheses are usually used when there isn’t much research on the topic or when a new area is being explored or if past research on the topic is contradictory
