Q

difference between directional and non-directional hypothesis

A

a directional hypothesis states the direction of the impact of the IV on the DV whereas a non-directional hypothesis does not state the direction of the relationship between the IV and the DV.

A

states the directions of the difference or relationship between variables
used when research is available to support the claim

Q

define non-directional hypothesis (two-tailed)

A

states there is a difference between the conditionals or groups but the nature of the difference is not specified
used when there is no research to support the claim

Q

define null hypothesis

A

what is assumed to be true during the study
any data collected will either back up this assumption or the hypothesis made
if the data does not support your null hypothesis - you reject it and accept your alternative hypothesis
e.g. there will be no differences between variables A and B in this study
