Hypotheses Flashcards
What is a hypothesis?
A testable statement which clearly states the relationship between variables being investigated.
What are the 3 types of hypotheses?
-Directional/One Tailed.
-Non-Directional/Two Tailed.
-Null.
A researcher investigates whether Calpol or a placebo will be more effective in reducing OCD symptoms.
Give a directional/one tailed hypothesis for this experiment.
Participants who take Calpol (for 24 weeks) would experience less OCD symptoms than participants who take a placebo (for 24 weeks).
A researcher investigates whether Calpol or a placebo will be more effective in reducing OCD symptoms.
Give a non-directional/two tailed hypothesis for this experiment.
There will be a difference in the number of symptoms reduced between Calpol users (for 24 weeks) and placebo users (for 24 weeks).
A researcher investigates whether Calpol or a placebo will be more effective in reducing OCD symptoms.
Give a null hypothesis for this experiment.
There will be no difference in the number of symptoms reduced between Calpol users (for 24 weeks) and placebo users (for 24 weeks).
