hypothermia Flashcards
what do we see in ECG if we suspect hypothermia
J wave formation
criteria for hypothermia and severe
hypothermia less than 35 degrees
severe hypothermia less than 32 degrees
Immediate treatment of hypothermia
slow rewarming - active external earming, warm blankets, warm room, and hot drinks may suffice. Thermal blankets
high urea - IV fluid replacements
- cathether - monitor fluid balance
why is slow rewarming done in elderly
too rapid rewarming may cause vasodilatation leading to shock leading to death
Recommended rate of rewarming
0.5-2 degrees per hour
Treatment for severe hypothermia
less than 30 degrees -warming can be achieved in suitable patients using peritoneal or heamodialysis or cardiopulmonary bypass
complications of hypothermia
pneumonia renal failure arryhthmia myocardial infarction DIC
